Hello and thank you for visiting our fundraiser for Dollie James, our dear mother! Many of you know that mom suffered a major stroke in 2013 that left her paralyzed on the left side. After a horrible experience in a nursing home for a couple of years, we bought mom home and cared for her ourselves since 2015.
A few years back, we relocated to Atlanta for a better job opportunity. Unknowingly, we found out after the move that the Medicare and Medicaid benefits supplied much less assistance then in Virginia. Yet, we continued to care for mom and give her the best quality of life that we could.
More recently, she has had more health issues that require more assistance and supplies than we can handle. Our first idea, was to place her in a nursing home for 1-2 months while we sort things out. Within 3 weeks in the facility, she experienced a broken leg… 3 inches above her knee, pneumonia, malnourishment that contributed to her declining bone density, lack of fluids that contributed to her kidney decline and stage 4 wounds around her body. Currently, she’s in the hospital being treated for the issues above. After two failed attempts at the nursing home, we will bring mom home to continue to care for her like she deserves. She has been through so much and deserves the best.
Currently, we reside in a second level apartment in which mom cannot safely return too. We decided to find a home with a first floor bedroom, purchase an ADA van, install a ramp and acquire nursing assistance out of pocket for a minimum of 8 hours a day. We are paying out of pocket for the supplies and medical equipment not covered by Medicare. However, the cost associated for everything is more than Sis and I can handle in such short notice. I’m hoping that family and friends can send something to help us meet this goal. No amount is too little! Many of you know how much we love mom and will do anything in the world for her, as she has for us. Please. We appreciate you all for prayers and monetary blessings.
