The purpose of this fundraiser is to help Dixie and her family take care of her personal and medical expenses for now and in the future. She has some health insurance but it will certainly not cover all her medical expenses. Dixie will need extensive rehab and will not be able to return to work or regular activities any time soon. These donations will ensure that Dixie can get the help she needs without having to worry about finances.

Sometime early Sunday morning Dixie suffered a stroke. She was admitted to ICU at a local hospital. We now know the stroke was caused by a heart arrhythmia that sent a blood clot to her brain. Surgery and stroke protocols were unsuccessful in dissolving the clot. She is now being treated with blood thinners and other medications to treat both her heart and the clot in her brain. She has lost a good bit of mobility on her right side. She is also very confused and has speech and other neurological limitations at this time.

 

Dixie has had a really rough few days. She IS making progress every day however. She will be going to an inpatient rehab facility shortly where she will continue to receive care and therapy. She is alert, knows who we are, and knows where she is and other key facts.

 

She is surrounded by family and close friends. AT THE REQUEST OF THE FAMILY, PLEASE DO NOT CALL, TEXT ETC DIXIE OR HER FAMILY AT THIS TIME. They are busy helping Dixie get better and taking care of essential calls and paperwork. They are also spending most of their time at Dixies side. They are quite overwhelmed and so ask for their privacy at this time.
