Honoring the Life of Diego M. Parra and Supporting His Family

It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of our dear friend, Diego.

Diego had been courageously battling kidney failure since 2023 and was undergoing dialysis as a renal patient. During his fight, he was also diagnosed with Calciphylaxis, a rare and life-threatening condition that primarily affects patients with end-stage renal disease and causes severe calcium buildup in the small blood vessels. Despite the immense challenges he faced, Diego continued to fight with incredible strength and dignity.

Many people knew Diego from his time working at Candlelight, where he served as both a cook and a door guy. To many of us, he was much more than a coworker—he was family. Diego and his father also worked for many years with the Brewery Bar organization, becoming part of a restaurant community that has touched so many people over the years.

Above all else, Diego was a devoted father. He leaves behind three beautiful children: Emily (19), Samuel (16), and Sofia (11). They were his greatest pride and the reason he worked so hard every day.

Anyone who knew Diego knew his work ethic was unmatched. In a time when dedication and perseverance can feel rare, Diego was the true definition of hard work and family values. Whether learning the refrigeration trade or sharing family traditions through his food truck, “La Abuelita” (“Little Grandma”), he always worked tirelessly to support the people he loved. Cooking and hospitality were part of his family’s legacy, inspired by his grandmother and parents.

Throughout his illness, Diego’s parents stood by his side and supported him every step of the way. The financial burden of his medical care, hospital stays, medications, and treatments became overwhelming as his condition progressed.

Now, as his family grieves this heartbreaking loss, we are asking for support to help ease the financial strain and to help provide stability for his children during this incredibly difficult time.
