We are the Cabrera family, and we are asking for help during the most painful moment our family has ever faced.
Our little brother/son, Diego, and our sister-in-law/daughter-in-law, Adena, recently experienced a devastating loss, the loss of their baby Alaiyah Monroe Cabrera.
Adena has been battling lupus, a serious autoimmune disease that affects her organs, including her kidneys. During her pregnancy, her condition worsened dramatically. Her kidneys were failing to improve. As things worsened they were forced to move to The Stanford Lupus Clinic with some of the best lupus doctors in California. Unfortunately, after only a month, the doctors made it heartbreakingly clear that continuing the pregnancy would put her life in danger. To receive the medical treatment she urgently needed to survive, the pregnancy had to be ended at only 19 weeks.
There was no “right” choice, only an impossible one.
Diego and Adena are already loving parents to two beautiful children who need their mom. Faced with the reality that Adena’s health was deteriorating and that she might not survive without immediate treatment, they made the painful decision no parent should ever have to make. They chose to save her life so she could continue being here for her children, her husband, and her family even though it meant saying goodbye to a baby they desperately wanted.
Now they are grieving not only emotionally, but financially as well.
Between emergency medical care, hospitalization, and the cremation and memorial costs for their baby, the bills have quickly become overwhelming. This is not something any family should have to worry about while trying to process this kind of loss.
We are asking for help to cover:
• Hospital and medical expenses related to the pregnancy and lupus complications
• Cremation and memorial costs for their baby
• Support to help Diego and Adena get through this period without drowning in debt while trying to heal
Every donation, no matter the amount, will go directly toward easing this burden so they can focus on what truly matters: grieving, healing, and caring for their family.
If you are unable to donate, we understand, but sharing this fundraiser and keeping them in your thoughts and prayers means more than you know.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for helping the Cabrera family lay our angel to rest and support Diego and Adena through this unimaginable loss.
With love and gratitude,
The Cabrera Family
