Support for Diderik, Tarrence, Nicole and Family

We come to you with heavy hearts and a plea for support. This has not been asked for, but we are hoping to touch your hearts with the story of our dear friends Tarrence, Nicole, their son Diderik, and their two other young children at home. The Peterson family is currently facing an unimaginable and heart-wrenching situation with their 8-year-old son Diderik.

It all began last Saturday when the Petersons rushed Diderik to the Emergency Room due to severe breathing complications. At the time, the doctors diagnosed him with influenza and croup and kept a close watch on him for several hours before releasing him.

Tragedy struck on Monday morning when Diderik suddenly collapsed and became unresponsive. His parents immediately began CPR while they anxiously awaited the arrival of paramedics. The paramedics were able to stabilize Diderik, and rushed him to the local ER. There they determined that Diderik needed advanced care, and life flighted him to the U of I’s Stead Family Children's Hospital, here he was placed into a medically induced coma.

Diderik's journey has been marked by moments of hope, followed by painful setbacks. Recently, the medical team delivered devastating news. Diderik’s condition has worsened, and he now suffers from Influenza Encephalitis, a condition severely affecting his brain function. This rare and unexpected situation has placed an enormous emotional burden on the Peterson family. Diderik's battle not only threatens his life, but also his family’s emotional well-being.

We are reaching out to you, to rally around the Peterson family during this challenging period. Our goal is to alleviate any financial strains and to provide them with the necessary support to cover everyday expenses during this crisis so they can focus on their family. The funds raised will contribute to medical bills, transportation costs, and help supplement their wages, allowing them to focus on Diderik, and their family without the added stress of financial worries.
