A Fund for Devin Scheffel

Donation protected
Our dear friend Bill Scheffel took his life on July 8, in Boulder, Colorado. This fundraiser has been created to support Devin Scheffel, Bill's son with the expenses accrued from his death. Bill was a devoted student of the Vidyadhara, who dedicated his life to carrying out the legacy of his teacher and the vision of Shambhala. He was a wonderful poet and documentary filmmaker. Bill was loved and will be sorely missed.

Bill Scheffel was a graduate of Naropa University, where he received an MFA in creative writing in 1994. He taught Chance, Synchronicity and Mind-writing for ten years in Boulder and throughout the U.S, and classes in creative non-fiction and poetry at Naropa University for many years. His own writing teachers include Allen Ginsberg, Anne Waldman and Diane di Prima, among others. Bill became a student of Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche in 1976, and began to teach Shambhala Training in 1980. He also taught the Shambhala Meditation Practicum at Naropa University from 1991 to 2004.

Devin Scheffel is also an artist and musician like his father. He works as a cook at the New Seasons Market in Portland, OR. Devin is a beautiful human being, gentle and kind.  He is now faced with the challenges of paying for funeral costs, rent of his father's apartment, travel and shipping expenses. Please join me in supporting Devin through this extremely difficult time by taking one burden off his shoulders.  A donation of any amount will be a huge support to him at this time. All funds will go directly to Devin. Thank you for considering.

A Tribute to Bill Scheffel

An excerpt from Devin's funeral speech:

"I know at the end he was suffering tremendously. He was trying to escape an immense pain that I can’t even begin to comprehend. But I know, I absolutely know, Bill wouldn’t want us to look at that and feel despair. Because he loved us all so much. He really, really truly loved every single one of us. You know he did. And he would want us to continue to celebrate our lives, and to keep being inspired by him. I know that when I look at the world, the way that he looked at the world. It’s breathtaking. So please, as painful as it is, let’s keep being inspired. And his inspiration will continue on out into the world and it will keep helping more and more people, just like he helped all of us".
