On the morning of June 20, 2026, my parents had to receive the most devastating news of their lives. Something that they should never have to go through. To ever lose your daughter, and in such a violent and tragic way, is something that I pray no one has to go through. Especially when it was to the most beautiful soul I have ever met.

James Candelaria has done something so brutal and unimaginable to Destiny Benavidez. Not only did he shoot her in the head, but he left her there for dead as he planned to cover it up. He involved his own kids and family, and ruined many lives. He ruined our lives and took my sister’s.

Destiny was the most caring, kind, thoughtful, and sweetest soul you could ever know. She never deserved anything like this to happen to her. She was always a fighter and even fought for her life after this tragic event. She remained on life support until June 24, 2026 at 1:09 am. She lost her life at 31 years old.

She was indescribably beautiful, inside and out. She was a devoted daughter, sister, niece, granddaughter, friend, and mother to her dog that she loved like her own son. She touched so many peoples lives. She was incredibly giving and should have received so much more.
