Support for Delroy's Family

Hello Wonderful Community

We at Apex Orchards are sharing the sad news of the passing of one of our farm workers, Delroy Samuels.  We wanted to share a little of his life with you as well as raise funds to support his family in their time of great need.

Delroy began working on the farm 30 years ago and was a native of Jamaica. He worked seasonally on projects ranging from stonework to harvesting fruit. If you've purchased fruit from our farm, there's a good chance Delroy picked it. He was a skilled mason and an all around team player. If you’d met Delroy you would be greeted with a kind smile and caring words. Delroy was always first to lend a helping hand and was always on top of managing some of our younger crew. He was an extremely knowledgeable and skilled farm worker and a truly beautiful soul. Delroy was a religious man who loved his family. He had a particular affinity for Western Movies, which he enjoyed watching in his last days on the farm.

At the  start of the 2020 Harvest Season we discovered that Delroy had metastatic prostate cancer and that palliative care was the next and only course of action. We were devastated for him but he took the news with nothing but acceptance and grace. Delroy’s view was that God would take care of him and that this was his path.

Delroy was able to  spend several months at the orchard before returning to his home in Jamaica. He was nothing but grateful for the visits and support from our crew and his friends and family in this area. We did what we could to keep him comfortable while we awaited instructions on getting him home to his family.  On October 19th we said goodbye to Delroy, something we’ve done each year for many seasons.  We realized this would be the very last goodbye. On Monday January 25th, we received the news from Delroys wife that he had passed away. His fight was short but brave and we hope to ease the strain on his family and assist with his remaining medical costs and funeral expenses. Any donation is greatly appreciated and please know you are helping one of the most kind and generous souls we’ve ever known.

If you prefer to stop by the farm, please do. Courtney or Tim would be happy to meet with you.
