Support Deena and Andrew to Make a Safe Home

My name is Arianne Shaffer and I have the great joy of being cousins with Deena Shaffer and her wonderful husband Andrew and their two glorious kids Evelyn and Sasha.
For those of you that know Deena and Andrew well you’ll know that Andrew has had persistent, very challenging, and worsening lung conditions for the past many years. After many medicines, treatments, experiments and doctors’ visits, his condition was still very rough and so they decided to look into the possibility of mould in their home as a potentially contributing factor.
A couple months ago they had an inspection and indeed discovered that there is a significant toxic mould problem in their basement making the home that they own and put so much love in in serious need of repair and renovation in order for this to be a safe place for Andrew to live.
They’ll have to relocate for a series of weeks starting next month in order for the remediation to take place. No easy thing to accomplish anytime but especially during this pandemic, two parents working from home, and navigating the real risk to Andrew’s health amidst all of this. Rough stuff right?!
For those of you that know Deena and Andrew well you’ll also know what sunbeams of positivity and resilience they embody. They have had a lot of challenge and remain open, positive and gracious given all the twist and turns that life has presented. They are remarkable!
This remediation will cost a lot of money, well before any renovation or restoration takes place. They will need to relocate. And, because of the pandemic, Andrew's employment has also become precarious.
Where will the money go? The remediation of the basement will be $50,000, so they are hoping to reach or even surpass the $25,000 mark. This will look like a total gutting of their basement, right down to scrubbing the joists. After, they will need to waterproof and restore the basement to make it liveable again.
This fundraiser is an invitation for their community and those beyond to chip in whatever you can to help ease the financial burden of this time. All contributions will go a long way practically and a super long way emotionally to support our dear friends, and in my case, family!
