Support for Deborah Mangual-Aponte's Memorial

Donation protected
It is with a heavy heart that I have to share that my mother, Deborah Mangual-Aponte, passed away on 2/13 at NYU Tisch hospital. My mom became sick on Sunday, two days later (Tuesday) she complained of chest pain and went to NYU. They simply said her lung scans were fine, and they sent her home. But Wednesday night, after our daily phone call together, she sounded extremely sick. On the morning of Thursday, my father called an ambulance because she had difficulty breathing. I met her at the hospital and she was admitted into the ICU after receiving oxygen from the BiPAP machine, nasal cannula and high flow oxygen. However her levels remained at 90, and in addition to the flu her new scan showed pneumonia, and her blood sugar read at over 400. She went into cardiac arrest after being intubated in the ICU, and passed away.

If you knew my mother, she was a proud nurse and lived by the nurse's code. She put others before herself, and even while in the hospital, minutes before the end, she worried about others and even tried to get me to look away because she did not want me to see her in this state.

My mother was taught by her mother that her hands were meant to heal and help. She welcomed all to her home, fed them and clothed them. She nursed everyone and anyone she could. Even after her career ending stroke, she was a proud ER Nurse for over 30 years.
She deserves to be remembered for being a good hearted woman, who deserved better from this world.

My mother was everyone’s advocate, and now I have to advocate for her memory. I want to give her a service that she deserves, and help my father during this difficult time.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. My mother loved with all her heart, and I loved her more than words could describe. Please help me put her to rest respectfully.

We are still trying to figure out services, once we have a date. I will update it with the information. I tentatively put a service date for 2/22 because I have to pay the funeral services in full by the time of the wake.

Thank you,

Amanda
