Debbie Aldous, my mother, has dedicated nearly 30 years of her life to caring for others at Elderwood Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She’s always been the type of person who goes above and beyond—never missing a day of work, coming in early, and staying late to help her patients and coworkers. This past September, Debbie began experiencing severe pain, but she pushed through, determined not to let anyone down. Eventually, the pain became so overwhelming that she had to take a leave of absence. Since then, I’ve watched my mother’s health decline rapidly. She’s lost a significant amount of weight, dropping from 145 pounds to just 89, and she faces daily pain. Despite countless tests—endoscopy, colonoscopy, CT scans—answers were hard to find. Finally, she was diagnosed with Achalasia, a rare condition that makes it difficult to swallow. Doctors tried Botox injections to help, but so far, nothing has worked. Her next hope is surgery at Albany Med, but with her insurance about to be dropped, the financial burden is growing heavier every day. Bills are piling up, and the stress is taking a toll on both her health and spirit. The funds raised here will help cover travel expenses for her doctor’s appointments and surgery, as well as her mortgage, utility bills, and medical co-pays. This support will allow Debbie to focus on healing, rather than worrying about how to keep up with mounting expenses.
