It is with deep sorrow that I share the passing of our beloved founder and friend, Dawda Sanyang. Dawda tragically lost his life on his journey to Spain when the boat he was traveling on capsized. There are 86 people missing who are presumed dead, including Dawda. He was not only a childhood friend but someone I grew up with, went to school with, and shared dreams and work with. Dawda’s kindness brought together people from different cultures and backgrounds, and his loss has left a deep void in our hearts and community.
Dawda was a devoted son and brother, and his family depended on him as one of their main breadwinners. His passing has placed his mom and siblings in a very difficult situation, especially his younger sister, who is still in school and excelling academically. As a family and a community, we feel it is our responsibility to come together and support those Dawda left behind. Every contribution will go directly to his family to help with their daily needs and ensure his sister can continue her education.
Thank you to everyone who has supported Dawda and shown kindness during this painful time. No amount is too small, and your generosity will make a real difference for his family. May Dawda’s soul rest in peace, and may you be blessed for your support.
