I’m writing this to commemorate Davont. He was 21 years old when he took his own life on Wednesday 1/8/2025. He was a kind soul tormented by not only the pains of this Earth, but also the silent struggle of mental illness. We cannot change the past, however I pray Davont’s story finds some light to impact another teen/young adult’s future. This world is not easy, nor are the trials and tribulations that come with it.
We never know what others are going through and I ask if you hear the words “I want to kill myself” please don’t ever take it lightly. Although he is now at peace he leaves behind a family that loved him so very much. You will always be remembered as the boy with the smile from ear to ear. That night at the hospital there were 3 other people that also committed suicide, all three around the same age as Davont. As a society we have to do better. If you’re someone on the edge I pray you come back and know people love you.
It was extremely important to Davont’s family, his beautiful mother especially, to spread awareness about the importance of mental illness and suicide in children, teens and young adults. As parents, we have to do better in listening to our children and getting them the proper help when dealing with mental illness. Our children’s lives depend on it. And as a society we need to do better in listening to these young people as well, they’re our future.
We are asking for your support in helping Davont’s family cover the cost of service and burial expenses and ease the financial burden this has left on his family, his mother, especially.
Every contribution, no matter how small makes a difference. Together, we can honor Davont’s Memory, and bring Hope to other teens or young adults who also may be suffering in silence.
Thank you for your kindness and support during this devastating time.
