Support for David & Zaden Recovering from accident
Donation protected
Hi everyone, I am raising funds for a very close friend of mine and his family. David (Anthony’s best man in our wedding), Tiara (David’s long time girlfriend and a close friend of mine), Lailah (basically my niece), Zaden (basically my nephew) were in a horrific car accident on Friday July 28. Tina got a call on Friday around 2:00 from Tiara explaining they had been in a crash. I am attaching below Tiara’s post explaining everything in detail about the crash and the details of what’s been done in the last 5 days for them. I have added a couple of things at the end of the paragraphs.
It was pouring down rain, and a bunch of cars started hydroplaning and going everywhere in front of us, in attempt to avoid the situation we tapped the break and it sent us into a hydroplane we went fishtailing almost hit a truck on the right hand side of us.. tried to correct left and sent the truck into a spiral. David did such a wonderful job of avoiding a giant patch of trees that we were headed straight into, he saw a clearing and was attempting to wipe out in it but wasn't going to be successful..... So instead of taking the tree head on, he tried to protect his family and turned the truck at last minute and took it to his door.
The boy's were pinned in the truck. No one arrived on scene for about 22 minutes, so I did the best I could to keep them stable
Lailah, thank goodness was laying buckled in the seat surrounded by pillows and blankets and with the good Lord's protection only received minimal bruising due to seat belt and rug rash from the seat. When I say only this is just physical injury. She had to endure and watch this traumatic event unfold for over 1½ hours... made to brace her little brother's head and neck well he screamed in pain, hanging out of a window in the POURING rain as I went to work on her father, in front of her. So her psyche is probably not the best at the moment, and will require lots of love and maybe some family therapy. I am so proud of this beautifully strong-minded young lady. She did an amazing job holding it together for me. And only truly broke at the end. I couldn't ask for a better stepdaughter.
Our son, had built a blanket fort and unfortunately undid his seatbelt without anyone knowing.. so he went head first out the window and came about 6in from hitting the tree, thank God his left leg got pinned the minute of the impact so he didn't go all the way out the window and into the tree. Instead it snapped his left femur and saved his life. It took about 30 minutes to cut him out of the truck after EMT arrived on scene. He does have a large laceration (same leg) which has and is requiring several surgeries. Zaden is so strong and so resilient. He is a true fighter just like his daddy. He is doing well, and goes in for his third surgery this afternoon. He will need more work after he is discharged, along with physical therapy and some skin grafting and such to repair the back of his leg. He is in Fairly High Spirits, and we are so very confident that he will make a full recovery. At this time Zaden has had 3 surgeries to repair his leg. The doctors are unsure if he will need more. God is good.
David is a more difficult story. It took them a little over an hour to get him out of the truck, they broke a few cables trying to pull the truck away from the tree so they could get him out after they cut up the truck and then it took awhile to stabilize him before heading to the hospital. He was completely smushed in-between the tree and the center console. He had two seizures right after the accident ( one was a couple minutes after impact, and the other was after help finally arrived). He presented as a critical TBI patient (and is still in critical condition and he still is a traumatic brain injury patient ) with bleeding and swelling on the brain, damaged carotid artery on the left side of his neck with a clot and hemorrhaging just above ( they said may have had a tiny stroke as well). He also has a damaged artery on the right back side of his neck, a C2 fracture of the spine, a significant laceration in his spleen (that bleeding has stopped). He broke two ribs on his right side and all of his ribs on the left side except two or three. He completely fractured his pelvis front and back, the surgeon told me last night that he was surprised it wasn't in four pieces floating in his body. It was fused together with screws yesterday (first of many surgeries) and he also fractured his acetabulum.
When brought in on Friday everyone's word tossed around was grave, its a grave situation, grave condition and so on.. I was told by several folks on Sunday that most didn't think he was going to make it. But they don't/didn't know my baby, my baby is a fighter, and he is working so hard and making strides of improvement. He got his intubated tube out yesterday evening, and they no longer have him medically induced. So he is definitely in a lot of pain and very agitated.. also talking a bit and answering a few easy questions, it's a very slow crawl, but he is going y'all and I'll be with him every step of the way. He is a hero, a fighter, and one of the strongest people I know.
Again, thank you all for all of your continued prayers, concerns, and well wishes!
I know he is so very grateful, as am I. We love that we have such a wonderfully strong friend and family Network know that you all mean the world to us. We love you all!!
Know that our boys are going to do amazing things in this life, this is just going to make them even stronger.
Tina (Lailah and Zaden’s mother) and Tiara are both staying in the hospital in Gainesville where the boys are to take care of them during this time.
This is suspected to be a very very long recovery process for both Zaden and David. We are asking if anyone can donate to help cover any medical expenses that do not get covered and to help with bills while Tina and Tiara (and David) are out of work. We would be forever grateful.
