It is deeply painful to share the news that my dad, David Short (62), has recently been diagnosed with Stage 4 leiomyosarcoma, an aggressive cancer growing in his stomach and liver. Facing losing years with his wife, four children, and seven grandchildren. He has just begun chemotherapy, the results of which have yet to be determined as a viable treatment plan. During this challenging journey, he is supported every step of the way by his family. I am seeking your kindness, empathy and love during this incredibly difficult time in our family. My father has had a remarkable career as a master shipwright. For over four decades, he has been dedicated to the artistry of wooden boatbuilding, leaving an indelible mark on the shipbuilding industry. His meticulous attention to detail, passion for his work, and commitment to honoring the historical methods of this craft have resulted in the creation and restoration of some of the most stunning vessels in the Atlantic. Throughout his career, not only has David created and repaired magnificent ships but has also mentored and inspired countless aspiring craftsmen, passing down his invaluable knowledge and expertise. His work has left an enduring legacy, with his projects recognized and admired but professionals and enthusiasts alike.
