David L Schwitters was more than just my cousin—he was a proud Marine, a loyal friend, and someone who could always make you smile with a good story. Born on August 30, 1955, at Chanute Air Force Base to Charles and Patricia Schwitters, David grew up in Rochelle, Illinois, and served his country in the United States Marine Corps from 1973 to 1977. He often shared his experiences with pride and humor, and his love for fishing, spending time with friends, and being part of the Moose Club made him a beloved member of our community.

About three years ago, David lost his leg due to an infection that the hospital couldn’t control. Despite his strength and resilience, his health continued to decline. In the last week of his life, David was in a coma, and his condition continued to deteriorate until he passed away in the hospital on February 9, 2026. His passing has left our family heartbroken and facing unexpected expenses as we try to honor his memory and give him the farewell he deserves. David is survived by his parents, Charles and Patricia, numerous nieces and nephews, and several cousins. He is predeceased by his brothers John and Bruce Schwitters.
