Support For David From Life-Threatening Medical Emergency

Hi, my name is Libby, and I’m raising funds for my dad, David, who is currently fighting for his life after what began as a routine medical situation that turned into a critical, life-altering emergency.

Just two months ago, my dad, mom, and their 5-year-old daughter moved to Oklahoma to begin an exciting new chapter. They had just purchased their first home, and my dad had started a new job that he absolutely loved. Unfortunately, he was still within the 90-day probationary period before his health insurance would begin.

On May 2nd, 2025, my dad went to the emergency room with severe abdominal pain and was diagnosed with appendicitis. He underwent surgery, which was expected to be simple. But afterward, things began to go very wrong. He was sent home to recover, but the pain became unbearable, and soon he was back in the ER.

Doctors discovered internal bleeding and began monitoring him closely. Over the following days, his condition worsened. Eventually, he was diagnosed with sepsis, his kidneys began to fail, and the infection spread quickly. He went into septic shock, requiring dialysis and emergency intervention to save his life.

During this life-saving surgery, a new surgeon discovered a hole in his colon that required a major resection. His body was left open for 48 hours to stabilize him for a second operation. By all accounts, it is a miracle that he survived. During this time, the doctors placed him in a coma, which he stayed in for over a week, still receiving support through a respirator, feeding tube, and dialysis. On May 28th, my dad's respirator was removed, and he started breathing on his own, another miracle.

Because my dad is Deaf, this entire experience has added an extra layer of stress and uncertainty for him and our family. Medical situations are already frightening, but navigating them with a communication barrier, especially in emergencies, makes everything harder. Our family has done everything we can to support him and ensure he understands what’s happening, but it’s been an incredibly overwhelming and emotional time.

Due to the unexpected nature of this crisis, and because he was still uninsured when it began, my parents are now facing over $500,000 in medical debt. On top of that, they are trying to keep up with mortgage payments, care for their young daughter, and support my dad through what will likely be months, if not years, of recovery.
