David Eplin, my brother-in-law, has always been the rock of his family. After serving as a medic in the Army and working 16 years at Frick's Quality Meats in Washington, MO, he was the handyman and breadwinner at home. Four years ago, David lost his wife of 34 years, Renee Richardson, and since then, his beloved cats have become his emotional support, helping him cope with the loss.
In March 2024, David’s health took a devastating turn. Since then, he has struggled for almost two years. His doctor suspects ALS, but he needs further medical testing to confirm the diagnosis. The progression of his illness has left him fully disabled, with very limited use of his hands and arms. He had to leave his job, and while he receives social security, he won’t qualify for full Medicare until August 2026. This means he must pay for his medical insurance out of pocket through the Marketplace, adding to his financial strain.
David’s 25-year-old son, James Eplin, quit his job and moved back home to provide 24/7 care. David depends on him for everything—eating, drinking, bathing, dressing, and even basic household tasks. Because his son cannot leave David alone for any extended period, he is unable to work outside the home. The funds raised will help cover essential monthly expenses for both David and his son, including medical testing, food, home and vehicle repairs, insurance premiums, and daily living costs.
David has always been there for his family and friends, and now he needs our help. Any support you can give will make a real difference in their lives during this incredibly difficult time. Your kindness and generosity will mean the world to David and his sons, James and Justin, as they face these challenges together.
