Dave Finnegan is a devoted husband, loving father, brother, and friend — and right now, he and his family are facing an unexpected life-altering medical situation.
What Happened
In mid-January, Dave suffered a heart attack while at work. Fortunately, his colleagues were quick to respond with life saving measures, including CPR. He was rushed to the hospital where five stents were placed to reopen his arteries and save his life.
Although Dave was released from the hospital after a few days, this was only the beginning of his medical journey. He was notified that he needed open heart surgery, but they were unable to proceed with the surgery because of an infection in his foot. Though the doctors tried to clear up the infection and heal the wound, the difficult decision was made to amputate his leg at mid-calf. Surgery is scheduled for February 17th.
After Dave heals from the amputation, he will then undergo heart surgery.
The Financial Impact
Dave hasn’t worked since his heart attack in mid-January. And, with both the amputation and the heart surgery, he’s looking at months before he can return to work.
In addition to the loss of loss of income, he faces the unknown of medical bills.
Who is Dave
Simply put, Dave is positive, caring, and kind person. He’s quick to lend a hand, and happy to organize getting the kids together.
If you’ve been part of the youth soccer scene in Richmond, there’s a good chance you know Dave. He spent years coaching soccer players of all ages and stages. Though his more recent sideline experience was in the role of dad to Nick (18) and Tommy (14) throughout their years at Strikers, FC Richmond, Holman MS, and Tucker HS. And if you’ve ever been lucky enough to have a child on Nick or Tommy’s team, you know that Dave is a quiet cheerleader for all the players and parents alike.
