Support for Dave After Boulder Fire Claims Home

My name is Kara and I live in Seattle, WA. That good lookin' guy in the photo is my uncle, Dave Crawford. Today, I learned of the devastating loss of his home in Superior, Colorado to the Boulder fires.

 

Wind gusts of up to 115mph combined with downed power lines fueled out of control grass fires which claimed hundreds, possibly thousands of homes in the Louisville/Superior area. Receiving the evacuation order and amid increasing smoke, Dave and his neighbor Mike stopped first to rescue another neighbor's dog, Chief, who was locked inside a nearby home and would have lost his life. After evacuating to a hotel (twice--the first hotel evacuated shortly after he arrived and he was forced to move again) with his rescue cats Jack and Lura, Dave could only wait as the fires approached and consumed much of his neighborhood in Old Town, Superior.

 

 

Dave's Superior, CO home- assumed at this point to be a total loss.

 

I started this GoFundMe, first of all, because Dave would NEVER. In fact, the only way he would give me consent to start one is my agreeing to add the disclaimer that he reserves the right to repay any funds that he ends up not using in the wake of the fire. This is exactly why I wanted to show him that we are here and have his back as he processes, grieves, and makes plans for the immediate future--because Dave is a pretty selfless dude, as anyone who knows him is aware.

 

Nothing can replace the intangible loss of old family photos, heirlooms or the personal comforts of home, but we can send Dave a message that we love him and that he is not in this recovery process alone.

 

Every dollar donated will go directly to Dave and his kitties as he secures immediate necessities like groceries, pet supplies and clothing. Funds may also be used for both short and long term lodging as he plans for next steps. At the close of this fundraiser, I will withdraw all funds and cut a check directly to Dave for the exact amount donated (this spares him having to deal with the GoFundMe verification process- I'm trying to do this in a way that involves the least amount of work for him).
