It has been six long years since my husband, Dan, was diagnosed with liver and kidney failure. I have watched him courageously endure dialysis three days a week, five hours at a time, always holding onto hope that he might one day receive a donor and continue sharing his life with the people he loves. Dan is the most incredible father I have ever known. Our daughter, Carly—now a freshman at FAU—is the love of his life. Everything he has done since the day she was born has been for her, helping her grow into the beautiful young woman she is today. Many of you have seen her at the Longboat Key Club and other local events, where Dan proudly showed her off every chance he got.
I have stayed by Dan’s side through every step of this journey. These years have tested us in ways I never imagined, but my love for him and our family has guided me as I’ve balanced being a mother, a wife, a caregiver, and his closest friend. Sadly, Dan’s health has declined, and he is now under the care of Hospice. With his only income being Social Security disability, we have stretched ourselves financially in order to keep him home—where he feels safe, loved, and surrounded by familiarity.
Now, as we face the heartbreaking reality of losing him, I am asking for help from the community he cherished so deeply. We are seeking support to cover funeral expenses and to create a small cushion as I begin the difficult process of selling our home and rebuilding life without my husband of 20 years and my best friend.
