Our family is going through one of the most difficult times we have ever faced.

Recently, our home was severely damaged after a sprinkler system pipe bursted during extreme cold weather, causing extensive flooding throughout all three floors. The damage was so severe that the house had to be fully gutted. We have been told it will be at least 4-5 months before we can even think about moving back in.

We are a family of five temporarily living out of a hotel, without insurance reimbursement for the costs. Despite having coverage, we recently discovered that because of a policy adjustment, our current homeowners insurance policy does not include coverage for Additional Living Expenses (ALE). As a result, this has left us covering these unexpected living expenses entirely on our own, while still covering the normal costs of our mortgage and living/health expenses.

Our household includes:

• My mother and brother, the only two members currently earning an income

• My uncle, who lives with us and is on disability

• My grandmother, who has health risks and needs stability and proper accommodations

In the midst of this displacement, we also experienced the heartbreaking loss of our beloved beloved 15-year-old dog, Rocco. Losing him in the middle of this chaos has added another layer of heartbreak and grief to an already overwhelming situation.

Right now, we are facing:

• Temporary housing expenses (ongoing hotel costs)

• Food expenses without access to a full kitchen

• Storage fees

• Emergency boarding costs for our dogs during the flood

• Ongoing mortgage payments

• Replacement of personal and medical items damaged in the flood (accessibility needs and medications for my grandmother and uncle with Down syndrome, etc)

• Emotional and financial strain on the only two working members of our household

We never imagined we would be in a position where we needed to ask for help, but the financial pressure of months of displacement without insurance assistance is simply more than we can manage alone.

Any donation, no matter the amount, will go directly toward:

• Temporary housing expenses

• Basic living expenses

• Supporting our family until we can safely return home
