Anyone who hasn't had the pleasure and honor of knowing him can learn about his inspiring life.
Daniel Benedict Flanagan, 52 of East Haven, beloved son, brother and friend, passed away on June 13, 2024 due to natural causes at Yale New Haven Hospital with his family by his side.
He was born on May 11, 1972; Dan lived a life marked by resilience and kindness, touching the hearts of everyone he met. A childhood cancer survivor, Dan found solace and purpose in his involvement with Camp Rising Sun, a camp dedicated to supporting children with cancer. He first attended as a camper and later returned as a counselor, providing mentorship and hope to many young lives.
Dan was a devoted employee at Lowe's Home Improvement for many years, where he took great pleasure in assisting his customers. His dedication and friendly demeanor earned him the admiration of colleagues and customers alike.
Summers held a special place in Dan's heart, as he cherished spending time at his cottage in Mansfield Grove Camping Association with his father, James Flanagan. He found great joy in nature, delighting in gardening and his affection for animals, especially his long time feline companion “Zoey.”
Dan had a particular passion for a good meal, especially appreciating lobster and filet mignon, and he could always be found hunting for the latest kitchen gadgets and other bargains.
Dan's life, though personally challenging at times, was lived with courage and an enduring sense of joy. His positive spirit and infectious smile will be profoundly missed by all who knew him. He is survived by his loving parents, James Flanagan and Patricia Wrenn, and his devoted siblings Christopher Flanagan (Mary) of Hamden, Tricia Boyer (Daniel) of Shelton, James Flanagan Jr. (Cheryl) of GA and Kerry Flanagan (Matthew Hammond) of NYC. Dan also leaves behind numerous beloved nieces, nephews, a great grandnephew, and a great grandniece.
