I am honored to call the Greenwade family my friends. I am setting up this fundraiser for Dakota Greenwade and his family to help support him as he begins a long, life-changing recovery after a devastating motorcycle accident.
On the morning of April 2 at 7:30 a.m., Dakota was riding from the gym to work when he was involved in a T-bone collision with a vehicle driven by a teen. He was dragged more than 30 feet beyond the point of impact. Emergency crews worked on scene for an extended period before transporting him to Asante in Medford.
After the initial evaluation, we learned Dakota suffered a punctured lung, internal bleeding, a broken pelvis, both femurs broken, and severe trauma to his left foot. Because of the extent of his injuries, he was life-flighted to OHSU in Portland, where he is now undergoing multiple surgeries.
Right now, we’ve been told Dakota will likely lose most of his left leg below the knee. Once he is stable and healed enough, he will begin the process of being fitted for a prosthetic.
Dakota just turned 32. He’s a diesel mechanic, a veteran who served eight years in the Air Force, and he’s a proud dad to two incredible kids, Ryder (9) and Lydia (7). His mom and dad, Dawn and Kane Greenwade, his siblings Savannah and Sterling, and his partner Karr are walking alongside him through this recovery.
As you can imagine, this has placed an enormous strain on the family emotionally, physically, and financially as they support Dakota through surgeries, recovery, and the many changes that come with an injury of this magnitude. This affects not only Dakota, but everyone who loves him and is standing beside him right now.
Dakota is the kind of person who makes the world feel lighter just by being in it. He is kind, endlessly loving, and he puts his whole heart into the people he cares about. He shows up with warmth, patience, and a genuine joy you never have to question, especially when it comes to his kids.
He is a fierce protector and a true champion for the people he loves. He carries responsibility without hesitation and stands steady for those closest to him, no matter what.
His happiness is contagious, often paired with a sharp, natural sense of humor that brings laughter even on the hardest days. Family and friends mean everything to him. He loves deeply, protects fiercely, and leads with a quiet strength that makes people feel safe just being around him.
With a heart as big as his, Dakota has a way of making everyone around him feel seen, valued, and cared for. He is a dedicated father, a loyal brother, and a son any family would be proud of. Truly, I don’t know anyone with a bigger heart than Dakota.
The few times I’ve had the privilege of being around him, it was immediately clear who he is. He’s the kind of person whose presence you feel before he even walks into a room. His smile stays with you. He’s larger than life, but grounded in a way that puts people at ease. When you’re talking with him, he makes you feel like you’re the only person in the world. He listens, he sees you, and he shows up fully. There’s a depth to him that you don’t come across often.
And the family he comes from reflects that same depth. I have never known a family like this one. They are deeply involved in each other’s lives, constantly showing up, staying connected, and supporting one another at every turn. They set a standard for what family can look like, and it’s rare and extraordinary to witness.
Dakota is now facing a road that will require everything he has, physically, mentally, and emotionally. He has multiple surgeries ahead, extensive rehabilitation, the work of learning to walk again, and the challenge of adjusting to a completely new way of living.
We’re asking for support to help cover medical expenses, ongoing care, rehabilitation, prosthetics, and to provide stability for his children and family during this time.
If you’re able to give, share, or simply keep Dakota and his loved ones in your thoughts, it means more than you know.
Thank you for standing with them.
