My name is Daisy Chase, I’m an autistic performer and teaching artist, and I am reaching out for help with rent.

This summer has been rough! For full transparency: I live paycheck to paycheck throughout the year. I have two jobs and one is seasonal, so I depend heavily on the other for steady income during the summer. Unfortunately, due to an IT glitch on the company’s end, I was unable to be scheduled for and did not receive any shifts at all for the past few months, and I wasn’t informed about the glitch until just a few weeks ago. So while for months I thought work would pick up eventually, nothing came through and I didn’t know why.

I used the little savings I had to pay for June rent/bills and have been unable to pay my rent/bills in full for the months of July, August, and September. I‘ve been job hunting and hustling the entire summer to try and keep myself afloat, but as I’m sure many of you know, the job market is exceptionally hard right now, and in general it can be challenging trying to find employers who are willing to hire someone who doesn’t have a college degree and has an autism diagnosis. So I’ve been unsuccessful in getting to work much this summer.

I’ve held off on doing this because I was hopeful the job search would be successful, but the situation has unfortunately become quite dire and reached a critical point, and I don’t really have many other options right now. I’ve been having health complications as well for the past few months and only just recently became insured (as of two weeks ago) to finally be able to address these complications, so I’m worried about mitigating needing to cover any future medical expenses as well.

TLDR summary: Due to a scheduling glitch I wasn’t aware of until recently, I missed out on months of work this summer and have fallen behind on rent. I’ve been job hunting with no luck and am now asking for help to get back on my feet and avoid going into debt.
