As many of you know from the post my mom made, on Monday August, 18 my dad was having what he thought was heat stroke. My mom and younger brother Noah went to pick him up from work and brought him home where he collapsed walking down the hallway leaving his bedroom. They got him into bed and checked his blood pressure which was 77/43, he normally has high blood pressure and has been on medication for it for quite a few years. He was unable to bend his fingers and was very in and out of it. Mom called EMS who got to the house and checked him over, confirmed his blood pressure was that low, checked his oxygen which was at 82% and said he was not having heat stroke but was having a heart attack. Upon arriving at the hospital, a scan was performed and found he had a total blockage in a big artery on the back of his heart where they immediately took him and put 2 stents in. An MRI was performed and they also found he had a stroke as well causing damage to 4 parts of his brain, one of which is a cut on the back of his brain that will never heal and could leave him partially blind for the rest of his life. On Wednesday, he had a chest ultrasound done and they found a small hole in his heart which will need to be repaired with an outpatient surgery in a couple weeks. He will have to go through PT, OT, and eye therapy. To top everything off, dad doesn’t have insurance. The insurance company messed something up and he was somehow dropped from our insurance plan, mom has been getting everything figured out and then this happened. There is a long road ahead of appointments, healing, and dad is unable to work for at least the next couple months leaving mom to pay for all of this and to support the two of them with bills and life itself. It would be so beyond appreciated for any help received as we all try to navigate this new normal for our family.
