Jurgen is student at Cañada College in the Bay Area who recently lost his grant-funded tutoring job then his healthcare due to his DACA status . He needs emergency funds while he searches for a new job, to pay for transportation costs to school, healthcare, and application fees for transferring to a four-year university program.
Jurgen is one of the kindest and brightest young people I have ever met. He was brought up in the Bay Area after moving here with his mom at age three. Because he wasn't born in the United States, Jurgen is a DACA recipient, a special immigration status that allows him to work but does not grant him official citizenship. People with DACA status (also known as "dreamers") have recently had their social services such as healthcare and access to financial aid for education terminated in many states. The removal of these basic supports has created an extremely stressful situation for Jurgen and other DACA recipients, on top of the threat of being targeted for deportation, despite living in the US legally for many years.
Jurgen has just two semesters of coursework left at Cañada College before he can transfer to a four-year university, where he hopes to study Philosophy and Computer Science. It would be a great loss if he's not able to complete his studies and share his talent with the world, just because he was dealt a challenging hand with his immigration status.
