My name is Carolina Molina Amaya, cousin of Cristian Castro.

On May 15th, 2026, around 8 o’clock in the evening, I received a phone call that would completely devastate my family and me. The kind of news no family is ever prepared to hear. My 17-year-old cousin had passed away.

As I am currently typing this, I still have no words to fully explain the pain my family and I are feeling. Everything still feels unreal. I want to share with you what I know at this moment, as we are still trying to understand how this tragedy happened. Around Friday evening on May 15th, 2026, Faison Fire and Rescue, N.C. responded to a rollover crash with several injuries on Interstate 40. Emergency personnel arrived quickly to provide care for my cousin and his close friends that were involved. Due to the severity of the accident, three medical helicopters were used to assist with transportation to the hospital.

From what I know, my cousin and his friends were all headed to play soccer together. While driving on Interstate 40, the back wheel of the car popped, causing my cousin’s friend to lose control of the vehicle, which led to it flipping and rolling over. My cousin was rushed to the hospital and placed under intensive care. His friends were also injured and treated immediately. A few hours later, we received news that my little cousin unfortunately passed away.

My family’s world changed in an instant. My cousin’s parents are grieving a pain no parent should ever have to endure, and our entire family is heartbroken trying to process this loss. During this painful time, I want to do everything I can to help and support them.

I created this GoFundMe for anyone willing to help support my cousin’s family during this difficult time. Any donations will go toward hospital bills, and mostly for funeral expenses. I was not asked to make a GoFundMe, but as a close family member, I want to help in any way possible. No amount of money could ever bring back someone we love so deeply, but any support, prayers, or even simply sharing this story means a lot for my family.

This is honestly the first time I have ever experienced the grief of losing someone so close to me, and it is truly heartbreaking. My cousin, Cristian Castro, was such a charismatic, funny, and unforgettable person. There was never a moment when he didn’t make the people around him laugh with his silly jokes and personality. No matter how serious the moment was, Cristian always found a way to make everyone smile.

I always thought of him as the troublemaker of the family because he was always finding ways to push people’s buttons, but in the most warmhearted and loving way. He lived fearlessly and always tried to fill his life with excitement and memories. From diving off high cliffs into a waterfall when no one else would, to chasing me and my other cousins with crabs we would find during beach nights, to being loud and obnoxious just to get attention and make everyone laugh. He brought so much energy, laughter, and life everywhere he went.

He was a best friend to many, a goofy soul to many, and a young man with so many dreams and aspirations ahead of him. His life was tragically cut short far too soon. Only the Lord knows when our time comes, and sadly, it was his time.

I greatly appreciate everyone who is willing to help me raise money for my cousin’s family. Even if you are unable to donate, simply sharing this story and keeping our family in your prayers means the world to us. I will continue updating everyone on the condition of my cousin’s friends who were also involved in the accident. El 15 de mayo del 2026, alrededor de las 8 de la noche, recibí una llamada telefónica que devastaría completamente a mi familia y a mí. El tipo de noticia para la cual ninguna familia está preparada. Mi primo de 17 años había fallecido.

Mientras escribo esto, todavía no tengo palabras para explicar completamente el dolor que mi familia y yo estamos sintiendo. Todo todavía parece irreal. Quiero compartir con ustedes lo que sé en este momento, ya que todavía estamos tratando de entender cómo ocurrió esta tragedia. Aproximadamente la noche del viernes 15 de mayo del 2026, Faison Fire and Rescue, N.C. respondió a un accidente de volcadura con varios heridos en la Interestatal 40. El personal de emergencia llegó rápidamente para brindarle atención a mi primo y a sus amigos cercanos que estuvieron involucrados. Mientras conducían por la Interestatal 40, una de las llantas traseras del carro explotó, causando que mi primo perdiera el control del vehículo, lo que provocó que se volcara varias veces. Mi primo fue trasladado de emergencia al hospital y puesto bajo cuidados intensivos. Sus amigos también resultaron heridos y fueron atendidos inmediatamente. Unas horas después, recibimos la noticia de que mi pequeño primo lamentablemente había fallecido.

El mundo de mi familia cambió en un instante. Los padres de mi primo están sufriendo un dolor que ningún padre debería tener que soportar, y toda nuestra familia está destrozada tratando de procesar esta pérdida. Durante este momento tan doloroso, quiero hacer todo lo posible para ayudarlos y apoyarlos.

Creé este GoFundMe para cualquier persona que desee ayudar y apoyar a la familia de mi primo durante este momento tan difícil. Cualquier donación será destinada a las facturas médicas y principalmente a los gastos funerarios. Nadie me pidió que hiciera un GoFundMe, pero como familiar cercana, quiero ayudar de cualquier manera posible. Honestamente, esta es la primera vez que experimento el dolor de perder a alguien tan cercano a mí, y es verdaderamente desgarrador. Mi primo, Cristian Castro, era una persona tan carismática, divertida e inolvidable. Nunca hubo un momento en el que no hiciera reír a las personas a su alrededor con sus bromas y su personalidad. No importaba qué tan serio fuera el momento, Cristian siempre encontraba la manera de hacer sonreír a todos.

Siempre lo consideré el travieso de la familia porque siempre encontraba maneras de molestar a los demás, pero de la forma más cariñosa y cálida posible. Vivía sin miedo y siempre trataba de llenar su vida de emoción y recuerdos. Desde lanzarse de altos acantilados hacia cascadas cuando nadie más se atrevía, hasta perseguirme a mí y a mis otros primos con cangrejos que encontrábamos durante las noches en la playa, o ser escandaloso y exagerado solo para llamar la atención y hacer reír a todos. Él llevaba energía, alegría y vida a cualquier lugar al que iba.

Era el mejor amigo de muchos, un alma alegre para muchos, y un joven con tantos sueños y aspiraciones por delante. Su vida fue trágicamente arrebatada demasiado pronto. Solo Dios sabe cuándo llega nuestro momento, y tristemente, ese era el suyo.

Agradezco muchísimo a todas las personas que estén dispuestas a ayudarme a recaudar dinero para la familia de mi primo. Incluso si no pueden donar, simplemente compartir esta historia y mantener a nuestra familia en sus oraciones significa el mundo para nosotros.
