My family could really use your help, but first I want to tell you a little about my parents. My father is a Navy veteran who has worked hard his entire life—and even at 71 years old, he’s still working. My mother is equally hardworking; at 69, she’s currently juggling three jobs and often working 16 hour days. Neither of them ever asks for help. In fact, they are always the first to show up for family, friends, or even strangers in need. They likely won’t even feel comfortable knowing this is being shared, but right now they truly need support.
On March 27th, my father suffered a severe AFib episode after dinner while we were out at Texas Roadhouse. After we ate, he stepped outside and sat on a bench to wait while we wrapped things up inside. While we were still in the restaurant, he suddenly lost consciousness and collapsed face first onto the concrete, breaking his nose. Thankfully, an off duty firefighter and a nurse happened to be walking into the restaurant and found him. We believe it was about 20 seconds after he collapsed—had they not been there, we likely would have lost him that night. They performed CPR and were able to restore his pulse. The attached photo, taken just four hours earlier, shows him with one of his granddaughters. Looking back, it’s hard to believe how quickly everything changed that evening, as this completely caught us by surprise.
Since that evening, my father has remained in the ICU on a ventilator and is still in critical condition. He recently underwent a tracheostomy to help begin the process of transitioning off the ventilator, as he has been experiencing ICU delirium. In addition to his heart issues, he is also dealing with a broken nose, multiple broken ribs sustained during CPR, and complications from recent spinal fusion surgeries that have since become disconnected. Despite the severity of his condition, we truly believe—God willing—that he will recover, although the road ahead will be long and challenging. My mother has been sleeping at the hospital since that night and has already used up her vacation time. We truly hoped he would be further along in his recovery by now, but that hasn’t been the case. She is being forced to return to work because, unfortunately, the bills don’t stop. On top of that, my father currently has no income.
We absolutely hate to ask, but if you are able to donate anything at all—no matter how small—it would mean the world to our family and help ease the financial burden during this incredibly difficult time. Your kindness, prayers, and support are deeply appreciated. Thank you for taking the time to read this and for keeping my parents in your thoughts.
