Support for Cory & Pauline

Donation protected
My Mother Pauline has lived with epilepsy ever since she was a teenager following a farm accident that scarred her brain. Despite this adversity, she continued on to live a normal and healthy life managed with medication, eventually marrying my father, Cory, & raising two daughters together.

However, in October of 2021, following a referral for a new neurologist (a common event in rural areas with a lack of specialists), this Dr. prescribed a medication change believing that my Mom had been taking the wrong medication for the type of seizures she was having all along. Except, once this change occurred our family began to see very obvious behaviour disturbances in Pauline, ranging from messy writing, confusion, paranoia, and progressively worsening signs of being out of touch with reality. A vast difference from the happy-go-lucky, baking, homesteading, Pauline we all know.

Over the next 4 months between Doctors who could never be reached, multiple hospitalizations, ambulance calls, psychiatric detainments and trying almost every seizure med in the book, the most promising diagnosis we received in February was Postictal Psychosis (PIP). Meaning that, even though my Mother was eventually placed back on a seizure medication almost identical to the one she was on prior to the initial medication change in November, the intense seizure activity instigated by the new medications caused an irreversible condition of psychosis. My middle-aged Mother now lives with this for the rest of her life and will not be able to return to work.

Throughout this time, my Father, Cory has watched the person he has known as his wife for the past 27 years almost completely fade away, taking time since November away from his job as a Municipality Foreman to stay home and care for her. Despite my Mother being discharged from the hospital and being now medically managed with antipsychotic medication, she is still not in a position to be left alone at home without care and supervision. This has meant that my Dad has eaten into his vacation and sick time and will soon run out.

Raising this money will help provide my Dad ease of mind so that he can continue to care for my Mother without the stress of lost wages and not being able to pay bills and keep themselves fed, while he also figures out a long term plan- whether that means finding a permanent in-home care solution or having to place her in a care home. This money will also support Pauline in getting the care that she needs, to keep her safe and supported within this new reality she lives in. At this time, Pauline needs a lot of reassurance and help with meals, bathing and taking her meds on time. The best person to provide this care for her right now is her husband.

I know my father to be asked for help by many but very rarely asks for any help in return. Cory and Pauline are well known in the neighbourhood and Kawartha community, so this is their friends & family who love them, asking for your support on their behalf. Any donation you make is greatly appreciated and will help offset the financial burden of this medically-induced tragedy.

If you wish to donate directly to Cory & Pauline, you can do so by email transfer. Please contact one of us for the email. Please note that the tip option when donating through GoFundMe can be changed to $0 if you prefer.

A sincere thank you to anyone who donates or has been supporting our family by other means throughout this journey. It means a lot.

With love,
