Quick backstory or long story short! First surgery in June 2022, had full hysterectomy and was cancer free. June 2024, diagnosed with a rare ovarian cancer. Granulosa Cell Tumor of the ovaries and another surgery to remove a large tumor and ovary. Was cancer free just over a year, in August 2025, 3 new tumors were found. First recurrence of granulosa cell tumor, ovarian cancer. Just underwent another surgery to remove 1 of the tumors, as the other 2 were very small and hard to get to. Setting this up for donations for continued treatment of the other 2 tumors as well as help surviving while going through all of this. If anyone would like the full backstory or any details of precious events, please reach out.
Current update:
The year started so well, but life likes to throw little curveballs. In August during a check up, my blood work showed my tumor markers back up and cancer may be back. After a handful of scans and tests, 3 new tumors were found. I recently underwent surgery where they removed 1 of the tumors but could not/did not want to get the other 2 as they were in a tough spot and very small. Plan was to recover and then recheck and go from there.
I have since had my follow up and multiple scans and given a couple options, as the 2 tumors are growing but projected to be very slow growing.
Option 1. Targeted therapy - where I take a medication that is supposed to target the specific cancer cells. Less invasive, perfect for someone like me where chemo/radiation would do more damage than good.
Option 2. Surgery, again. With potential of nerve/other damage due to their location and size. They said we can also wait a little to do surgery where they have a chance to grow and be a little easier to maneuver, however that could potentially cause spreading or another tumor to form (which unfortunately can happen regardless of any route we take at this point. My cancer has a 95% chance of recurrence).
My personal choice would be to do the targeted therapy as I have had 3 major surgeries now in the last couple years and I'm already over all that. The problem I'm facing at this point, with any decision I make, is finances. I have shit insurance, and like most of America, they are not wanting to cover things. At first they denied the targeted therapy, I appealed, then said they would only cover a portion, leaving me to pay over 80% put of pocket. And when it comes to the surgery, because I have already had surgery once this year, I am pretty much at my out of pocket max, which should mean they should cover from here on out, however they also denied parts of the surgery. I once again am going through appeals process.
At this point, life is already getting overwhelming with the medical bills coming in from my recent surgery, and now I have to figure out what to do, what I can and cannot further appeal, and where to go from here. I did soooo good saving this year, getting myself debt free, and just like that, in a blink of an eye, my credit cards are maxed and my savings is drained and I missing out on work due to surgery, recovery, and handfuls of appointments. Living on a single income, with little help and health issues, is not for the weak that's for sure. So here I am, begging the public for help as I do not know what to do from here.
A dollar, a share, a prayer. I'm genuinely grateful to even be here, for each and every one of you. I appreciate all the love, support, guidance, prayers, and any help during these times.
