Due to the outpouring of support and a lot of inquiries as to what we’ve been going through the last few days, please read below. On Thursday, our son Colton was practicing with bow and arrows alongside his older siblings. Unfortunately, a tragic accident occurred, and Colton was struck by an arrow that entered at the corner of his right eye. Thankfully, it did not damage his eyeball or the orbital bone. The arrow was surgically removed Friday morning during an emergency partial craniotomy. It came within millimeters of his carotid artery and cerebral cortex, but miraculously, both remain unharmed.
Colton is currently in the PICU, where he is being closely monitored by neurology, ophthalmology, and endocrinology. During neurological checks, his right eye sometimes responds to light and sometimes does not. His left eye is able to see and read some, which is encouraging but also incredibly painful, and there are some minor muscle-related concerns. We will not have vision answers for a while. Overall, he is making incredible progress, though we know there is a long road to recovery ahead. He has been able to speak with us, but he is understandably very tired and in significant pain but improving with time. He is at CHKD and is expected to remain there for an extended period. We have four other children and Dad has been out of work for a week now and will not be returning in the near future.
The funds raised will help our family cover essential living expenses, travel for hospital visits, meals, and future medical bills while Cody is unable to work. We won’t be able to pay our bills this month or next month with Cody being out of work. With five kids we definitely understand that the economy is tough on everyone right now. Please consider donating if you’re able and continue praying! Thank you so much.
