Colson is a bright and loving five-year-old, the son and grandson of close family friends who have always been there for their community. This winter, Colson’s life changed dramatically after he contracted RSV. What started as a common illness quickly became much more serious—he developed inexplicable rashes and lost the ability to use his arms and legs. After several urgent visits to doctors and the ER, Colson was admitted to Children’s Hospital in DC. There, after a series of tests, he was diagnosed with Henoch–Schönlein purpura (HSP), also known as IgA vasculitis. This rare autoimmune condition causes inflammation and leakage in small blood vessels, leading to a distinct red-purple rash, joint pain, abdominal pain, and even kidney issues.

Colson was released from the hospital after a few days of fluids and pain medications, but his symptoms and pain persisted. He was soon readmitted, and now he and his family are waiting for more answers and second opinions. The family is doing everything they can—shuffling work schedules, rotating hospital visits, and caring for Colson’s little sister at home. With their paid time off maxed out, they are forced to make impossible choices between work and being at the hospital with their son. The emotional and financial toll is immense, and they need our help.

Funds raised will help cover groceries, bills, and medical expenses that go beyond what insurance covers. Any little bit helps and the family is so appreciative of your generosity. If you cannot give at this time, prayers are very much welcome. And if donating money online is not a preference for giving, I can help coordinate other offerings like gift card donations, meals, and babysitting coverage. Thank you so much for your kindness!
