Approximately 2 months ago, my mom began exhibiting rare neurological symptoms that led to weeks of doctor’s appointments and every test you can imagine. After no answers and rapid weight loss and loss of appetite, we rushed her to Mayo in Jacksonville. After 10 days and lots of tests, a diagnosis of creuzfeldt Jakob disease was made. A fatal neurodegenerative disease. Mom is no longer able to care for herself and while she is presently in inpatient rehabilitation, the road ahead is unknown and she’ll require daily support and expensive hospital equipment in the home. My dad hasn’t left her side and has truly been the epitome of a great partner. Medical bills are piling up and given the level of support mom will require moving forward, we are asking for any help anyone is able to provide.
