Aubrey was a loving mother and wife whose life was tragically cut short due to complications from bariatric surgery. After her surgery, she developed a transfer addiction from food to alcohol—a risk that affects nearly 30% of people who undergo this procedure. Aubrey was never a fan of alcohol before, but the surgery changed how her body processed it, making the addiction much stronger and harder to fight. Despite her best efforts and several attempts at sobriety, Aubrey struggled with feelings of being trapped and hopeless. In just one year, Aubrey developed cirrhosis of the liver severe enough to shut down her organs. Her body, weakened by the surgery, lacked the strength to recover. Throughout this difficult time, her husband Chris took on the immense responsibility of caring for their three children—a one-year-old, a four-year-old, and a teenager—as well as his own father, who is battling leukemia. Chris has missed a lot of work to care for Aubrey and their family, and now faces additional challenges like car issues and the overwhelming grief of losing his wife. As their grandmother, it breaks my heart to see my grandchildren suffer such a painful loss.
