Support for Charlie Landsman - Stroke Survivor
Donation protected
On Monday April 19, 2021 Charlie suffered a severe Basilar Artery Stroke. He underwent emergency surgery to remove the clot, which was located in his brain stem. While treated aggressively by the neurologist, he has significant long term damage. Charlie is currently in the ICU at Abbott Northwestern Hospital and is expected to move to a long term care facility once stable. The damage has so far resulted in right side paralysis and the inability to speak and swallow, which required Charlie to be placed on a ventilator. Today, April 22nd, Charlie had a tracheotomy but remains on the ventilator. The procedure went well and the hope is that he’ll regain his ability to swallow with extensive therapy in the months to come.
Charlie & his Girls have a long road ahead as they adapt to their new normal. We are asking for support not only for Charlie’s medical bills but support for his beloved Girls now and into the future as we do not expect Charlie to be able to return to work.
Whether via a monetary donation, positive vibes, good thoughts or prayers, your contributions are greatly appreciated.
We all know Charlie as a carefree, chatty, loveable teddy bear as well as an AVID Star Wars, Phish, Avett Brothers, Grateful Dead, Minnesota Wild, Vikings and Twins fan! Unfortunately, one of his beloved Phish sweatshirts fell victim to the ER on Monday. Shh...don’t tell him :) we’re working on a replacement.
The type of stroke Charlie suffered in the basilar artery is believed to account for only 1% of all strokes with a very low survival rate meaning Charlie has already beaten the odds! We are beyond hopeful today but we are also realistic. The road ahead is greatly unknown and this is a marathon not a sprint. The weeks, months, and years to come will be challenging and your continued support and encouragement is needed as the family navigates this new journey.
Much Love from Charlie’s Army on behalf of Charlie, Crissy & Piper
