My daughter Celestina has been fighting for her health since the very beginning of her life. She was born early after I was hit by a car while pregnant, and shortly after birth we learned she could not pass meconium. She was diagnosed with Hirschsprung’s disease and underwent a pull-through surgery when she was only days old. About a week after surgery, she began showing symptoms that progressively worsened. We made repeated visits to pediatricians and the emergency room, but her symptoms were normalized and we were sent home while she continued to decline. As her condition became more severe, I reached a breaking point and pleaded for further evaluation, fearing she had enterocolitis. She was then directly admitted to the hospital and diagnosed with Hirschsprung-associated enterocolitis (HAEC), along with rhinovirus and COVID. She is now facing additional complications related to her disease and surgery that require further testing, cultures, treatment, and an extended hospital stay. Watching your child suffer and fight for their health is something no parent is prepared for, and I am staying by her side every step of the way. She now requires constant care and hospitalization. During this time, my full focus is on supporting my daughter’s recovery as she requires constant care and ongoing hospitalization.
