Erik Dobay passed away suddenly after suffering a stroke from which he could not recover. His unexpected passing has left his wife, Catherine, and their daughters, Mackenzie (Kenzie), Bryana, and Tatyana, grieving the loss of a devoted husband and a fiercely loving father. Erik was truly one of a kind. His presence filled every room with laughter, warmth, and an unmistakable sense of joy. He was known for his generosity, his open heart, and his open home. Erik was always willing to gather people around his table, share a meal, lend a hand, or simply make someone feel welcome. Erik had a way of making people feel like they were the only one in the room, putting everyone at ease, often through humor, storytelling, or that well-known, contagious smile.
Even in his passing, Erik continued his giving. As an organ donor, he was able to save the lives of five people. This was a final, extraordinary act that reflects the generosity and selflessness that defined how he lived every day.
In addition to the profound emotional heartbreak, Erik’s sudden passing has created unexpected financial strain. As a small business owner, Erik’s obligations will take time to settle, resulting in short-term financial hardship for the family during an already devastating time. This on top of the mounting medical and legal bills, will create additional hardships for the family. Cate will also have solo responsibility for all of Kenzie's educational and basketball needs moving forward including college.
This GoFundMe has been created to help ease some of the immediate financial uncertainty and allow Cate and the girls the space to grieve, heal, and support one another without the added pressure of financial stress. Any contribution, no matter the size, and any sharing of this page is deeply appreciated.
The fundraiser is organized by close friends of the Dobay family, with funds being directed to a family member on Catherine Dobay's behalf.
