On November 13, 2025, Carter went into St. Mary’s for an MRI of his brain and spine in an effort to continue looking for the primary cause of his hypotonia and gross motor delays. A tumor was found in his cerebellum, and Carter was transported via ambulance to UW American Family Children’s Hospital the same day. This tumor is likely the cause of his hypotonia and coordination/balance challenges.
On November 14th, he began a surgery to attempt to remove the tumor and insert a drain to help decrease the fluid buildup around his brain caused by the tumor. From there, the tumor will be sent to pathology, and next steps will be decided. Depending on the results, that might include chemotherapy or radiation.
No time is ever favorable for this type of news, but it comes at the end of Karmyn’s maternity leave and exhaustion of her FMLA. It is unclear how long Carter will be in the hospital or how long he may need increased support for at this time. This will come with a financial burden to the family, with limited PTO, and likely insurance coverage/cost changes due to the needed time off.
Any funds raised will go directly toward Carter’s medical care, including hospital bills, imaging, treatment, and any therapies he may need in the months and years ahead. Donations will also help cover travel costs, meals, and the day-to-day expenses that add up quickly when a family is focused on caring for a child in the hospital.
Thank you for keeping Carter in your hearts and for the donations made in support of his journey. Every message, prayer, and act of generosity will lift them up and help them face each new step with hope.
