Please help us support the Ferguson Family as they navigate this challenging time. Below is a message directly from Rebecca and Ian:
We are blessed to announce that our son, Carter Dunreath Ferguson, joined our family on Saturday, January 15th. Unfortunately, his delivery was stressful for both Rebecca and baby, and he was delivered via emergency C-section. Carter experienced Meconium Aspiration Syndrome during delivery, and was immediately taken for treatment to remove waste trapped in his lungs. This is a rare but potentially fatal complication that can occur during delivery, and we are thankful that his delivery team recognized the issue immediately. However, his condition required more intensive treatment and he was transported to another hospital with a NICU. After attempting to stabilize him for 24 hours, Carter’s team made the difficult decision to transfer him to a more intensive NICU setting. Carter was transported by air to Stanford Hospital, where he continues to receive treatment today for Pulmonary Hypertension. Fortunately, Ian has been by his side everyday, and Rebecca was able to join the family as soon as she was discharged from the hospital. We are now staying at the Ronald McDonald house right by the hospital, allowing us to spend every moment we can by Carter’s side.

Carter has made tremendous gains in the last week, and his fighting spirit (and adorable face) continue to amaze his team every day. His road to recovery is still not over, but every day is a positive step towards getting him healthy enough to go home.
It goes without saying that this journey was far from what any family expects to experience in the first days of their child’s life, and therefore has been incredibly challenging emotionally for us. For those that have been aware of the circumstances and have reached out, know that your kindness and compassion are appreciated more than you know. We respectfully request that inquiries continue to be limited, as it at times can be overwhelming to keep up with the emails and messages. Know that if you don’t receive a response that your thoughts and well wishes were received and appreciated.
Occasional updates on Carter’s progress will be provided in the coming days and weeks.
Carter is truly blessed to be joining a community of friends and family who love him so much already! The strength and support he is receiving from a distance is undoubtedly contributing to his improvement, so THANK YOU!
