Support for Carmen's Son's Medical Expenses

Hello! We are the DeMeyere family—Dan and Ashley and our two kids Isla (3) and Declan (5 months)—and for the past two years Carmen has been our nanny. She is more than a nanny though, she is a part of our family. Isla looks at her as a third parent and while she just started looking after Declan, he is already bonded closely to her. No one can get Isla to sit still and do a craft like Carmen, and (though it is hard to admit) Declan often reserves his biggest, sweetest smiles for her.

This past Sunday, Carmen's only child Alexis was in a devastating car accident when his tire blew out on the freeway. He suffered a severe head injury and is currently fighting for his life in the ICU at Marin General. His vitals are stable and the doctors are working very hard to save him. While we can't do anything to aid in his recovery directly, we know that no matter the outcome of this situation the medical bills will be very high. Dan and I are committed to keeping her job secure and supporting her financially as best we can, but we know that will likely not be enough.

I started this fundraiser because I want money to be the last thing on her mind while she goes through this extremely difficult time. I want her to be able to focus all of her time and attention on Alexis without worrying about her job or bills. Alexis is a kind, thoughtful, hard-working young man. Like many twenty year olds he loves to play sports (especially soccer), and is enrolled in classes at Santa Rosa. He loves his job at Blue Barn in Novato where he delights everyone who comes in with his warm smile. He is Carmen's everything and our hearts are broken for her.

In addition to being our nanny, Carmen's sister Hilda is our niece Emily's nanny. Her other two sisters Irma and Delia work with us as well and it is difficult to overstate what kind, compassionate, wonderful people they all are. The family has an extremely strong faith and we all feel that Alexis is a fighter and will make it through this. Please join with us to support Carmen and Alexis.
