On Saturday, Carlos Ernesto Guerra Cruz was detained following an incident and taken to a detention facility in Centennial, Colorado.

After spending the weekend in custody, Carlos called his wife, Yorliana, on Monday and told her that he was being released.

His family believed he was coming home.

But Carlos never made it home.

As Carlos was being released from custody, he was taken into custody by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). He is currently being held at the ICE detention facility in Aurora, Colorado.

In a matter of moments, relief turned into fear and uncertainty.

Carlos’s wife, Yorliana, and their two children, ages 8 and 12, are now facing an extremely difficult and uncertain family crisis. They are trying to understand what comes next while navigating the legal, emotional, and financial consequences of Carlos’s detention.

Carlos came to the United States four years ago and has a pending asylum case.

His detention has left Yorliana carrying the emotional and financial weight of caring for their children while they cope with the unexpected absence of their father.
