Support for Carlos Zamarripa's Final Wishes

Hello, my name is Lisa Zamarripa. My dad, Carlos Zamarripa, got sick about 3 months ago and has gone downhill since. For about a month and a half, we went back and forth to the ER and urgent care for his lungs. They were showing what looked like pneumonia, so as any doctors would do, they were giving antibiotics. He did this 3 times in a month and a half. After continuous treatments, he got really sick and started falling over and eating less. Dad ate the same diet for a whole year: chicken, mashed potatoes, and green beans. We had been to an oncologist, dermatologist, and allergist many times throughout the year as he had a horrible rash this whole time as well. Mom has been off work since dad took a turn for the worse. Mom had to call an ambulance when dad wouldn't wake up one day and was unresponsive. Dad then got hospitalized at Lake Regional, and we spent 2 days there. The 2nd day was the worst for us all.

Dad was diagnosed with a fungus in his lungs that had spread to his blood and brain, causing meningitis. It’s a very hard disease to catch in time to treat, and dad's was caught too late. Dad spent over 30 days in neuro ICU in Columbia while they continuously gave us the run around. Dad went through many obstacles: intubation, sedation, a catheter for draining brain fluid, and many spinal taps. Then they moved us to another building when a physician told us dad was not going to get well. I made the hard decision to bring dad home on hospice. Dad also asked not to die at the hospital or on an operating table.

Dad does not have any life insurance or savings as this was unexpected, and most of the family is struggling. I have called a few different funeral homes, and they don’t do any payment plans. Dad does not want to be cremated as it is against his religion.
