I am heartbroken to announce that Carl has passed away after a long courageous battle against his diagnosis of terminal cancer last year. I know Carl has made a deep and life long impact on every single person who had the priviledge of knowing him. He will be forever in our hearts and missed very much by his family and friends. He had one of the brightest lights and life will truly not be the same without him.
I want to thank everyone who helped out and selflessly contributed to help subside the costs of Carl's medical expenses the past nine months. I am now asking for your generosity and compassion to help cover the costs of his funeral while his family grieves this incredible loss.
If you are unable to donate at this time, please keep this family in your thoughts and prayers.
Unfortunately I have to deliver some sad news that Carl Von Biela has recently been diagnosed with terminal cancer. Carl had originally gone to the hospital under the speculation he may have had covid as he was suffering from a cough and chest pain. When the covid test came back negative the doctors then ran blood work and tested his vitals which all came back normal. When explaining to the doctors that he was still having a hard time breathing they did an X-Ray which exposed some abnormal spots on his lungs. The next step was a CT scan which exposed the Cancer and that it had metastasized throughout his entire body. He had no idea he would be walking out of the hospital that day with a diagnosis of Stage 4 Adenocarcinoma terminal Cancer. Carl's life expectancy at this point is uncertain due to his diagnosis being so new and unexpected. He is currently undergoing aggressive radiation therapy on his brain and lungs to help with the quality of his life for the time he has left with us.
Carl and his wife Candra are self employed individuals and work as a team through C&C Contracting in Saskatoon. Regrettably government funding is not applicable while being self employed. They currently have no source of income as Candra's new full time job is taking care of Carl and tending to his needs. Ideally we would like to hold fundraisers to help with the financial burden but due to Covid and the restrictions we are unable to.
I first met Carl and Candra through working at my fathers company Zel Countertops in Saskatoon. They have been long time loyal customers of ours. I then later in life grew very close with their daughter Taija, they have always treated me like a member of their family. I have had the pleasure of getting to know this family on a personal and professional level. Working so closely with Carl and Candra through Zel for so many years I was able to see how much Carl not only cared about the work and product he was putting out, but he always made a point to put his customers above anything else. Whether it meant getting product donated, or cutting costs on his end. He did whatever was needed to get the job done when his customers were in a crisis. He would bend over backwards in anyway he could, for anyone he could. Always. It's just who he is. He truly is one of a kind.
Carl and Candra are not the type of people to ask for support as they are usually the ones doing the supporting. I have created this GoFundMe page in hopes to take the distraction of financial burden off of this family to ensure they are able to spend as much quality time with Carl in the time he has left. Every single dollar counts and is a huge help to this family during such a trying time.
If you are unable to donate a this time please keep Carl and his family in your thoughts and prayers. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
