My name is Elijah, and I’m caring for my mom, Melody Youngs, at home as she goes through end-of-life hospice. Some of you might know my mom—she’s always been a fighter, but after years of battling alcoholism, her body is shutting down from liver failure. At 19, it’s heartbreaking to watch, and I’m doing everything I can to keep her comfortable.

My stepdad works long hours just to keep a roof over our heads, so most of the caregiving falls on me. We’re struggling to afford groceries, daily expenses, and soon, funeral costs. I also want to help my step-dad take time off work to be here with us during her final moments and support our family after she passes.
