I was in a car accident and am trying to get some help with my bills. I do not mind at all if you personally can't help.
My boyfriend and I were heading to the A's game on Sunday, 6/23, and we ran into a pocket of stopped traffic on highway 120 in Manteca. While we were sitting on the road completely stopped, someone slammed into our Honda from behind going full speed (60-70mph).
My eyes were closed. I don't remember feeling the impact, I just remember the sound of the crash. When I opened my eyes, I was looking down at the center console and I was stuck. Blood was pouring out of me from multiple places. My boyfriend tried to pull me out but it hurt. Two paramedics had to break the driver's side door and pull me out through the hole.
We were both rushed to the nearest hospital, San Joaquin General, where I laid in a bed in the trauma center and many doctors, nurses, and surgeons walked by me trying to figure out what to do. They did a CT scan and X-rays. They wouldn't give me pain medicine or water in case I needed emergency surgery. The pain and thirst were horrific.
I fractured 5 ribs and my pelvis. I had multiple fractures in my face. My spleen had ruptured and was bleeding internally. The surgeons were keeping an eye on my spleen to see if it would stop bleeding on its own, which thankfully it did and I didn't need emergency surgery. I did need facial reconstruction surgery though, so that was scheduled for the next day. I finally got pain medicine and was stabilized so I got some ice chips and moved into the ICU.
My facial surgery was the day after next, because it got rescheduled. The pain after that was absolutely excruciating. They put a metal bar in my cheek and a plate under my eye. There was also an external metal plate to keep me from lying on that side of my face, which ironically was the worst part.
Over the next several days I was monitored, physical therapy came by to try to get me to sit up and walk, but I mostly just laid there in pain. I had a total of 3 nights where the blood in my face refused to clot so I literally was choking on blood clots coming from my sinuses. That was the worst part of my entire situation. Blood just kept running out of my nose like a disgusting warm faucet.
After 10 days I could get myself up and into my wheelchair, so I went home on Tuesday, 7/2. I still have a lot of work to do to be back to normal, but I'm happy I'm alive and I'm home now. I left out a lot, so feel free to ask questions.
I now have to deal with the struggle of continuing to pay my monthly rent, my monthly bills, and my hospital bills when I will be unable to work for the next few months while I recover. I will also need to purchase another car when I am able to walk again since my Honda is totalled. The person who happened to be not paying attention on the freeway may have ruined my life at the moment, but at least I still have one. Please help if you can.
Thank you for reading.
