Hi everyone,
I never thought I would be in a position to ask for help like this, but our cat Cappuccino is very sick, and we’re doing everything we can to get him the care he needs.
On April 7th around midday, Cappuccino suddenly stopped acting like himself. He’s usually a highly energetic cat who loves to explore and play with his sister Tilly (especially when he has the zoomies); but instead, he became very lethargic. At first, when we noticed he was sleeping instead of running around like usual, we thought he was just be tired; but when the behavior continued into the next day, we knew something was seriously wrong. He wouldn’t eat, drink, or even use the litter box.
We took him to the vet early in the morning the next day, but unfortunately, they were unable to determine the exact cause for his behavior. They found that his stomach was in pain; that he was constipated and that there might be a blockage; and that he was dehydrated, but that's all they could determine. They treated him with fluids, took x-rays, administered an enema, and gave him pain medication, anti-nausea medication, and antibiotics.
Despite all of this, we still don’t have answers.
That first visit alone cost $1,340, and today we are bringing him back in for additional diagnostics; possibly more x-rays, an ultrasound, or even surgery. Each step is more expensive than the last, and we still don’t know what we’re up against or if his condition is life-threatening.
We are devastated and scared.
Cappuccino is such a special part of our little family. We adopted him this past July, and after losing our other kitty, Murphy, 2 years ago to an incurable illness (just a few months after bringing her home), this situation is especially heartbreaking. We are terrified of going through that kind of loss again and want him to get better, treating him as soon as possible.
Financially, this has been incredibly difficult for us. I started my real estate business about a year and a half ago, and it’s been a slow climb getting established. I’ve been working a second job just to stay afloat. My husband was laid off in October due to a company merger and is still searching for work, often getting auto-rejected due to his citizenship status. We’re doing everything we can to stay on top of our new mortgage and bills, and we live very frugally.
Even so, the cost of emergency veterinary care is quickly becoming overwhelming.
We want to give Cappuccino every chance to recover. He deserves that. But we can’t do it alone.
If you’re able to donate, even a small amount, it would mean more to us than we can express. And if you’re not in a position to give, sharing this page would help us just as much.
Thank you for taking the time to read our story, and for any support you can offer; whether it’s a donation, a share, or simply keeping Cappuccino in your thoughts.
With gratitude,
Elisabeth & family
