In 2018, I was diagnosed with tongue cancer (squamous cell carcinoma), one that is rare especially in someone young and someone who does not smoke nor drinks heavily. After 3 rounds of chemo, 7 weeks of chemoradiation, and surgery, we thought I was in the clear. Unfortunately, in a few short months, the tumors had returned. After that I was on immunotherapy for 5 years and finally the CT scans showed no more signs of cancer.
Then a year later, we learned that I had developed osteoradionecrosis, which is bone death due to radiation, in my lower jaw. And just one month ago I underwent a major surgery (fibula flap surgery).
While I have been lucky and privileged to have fairly decent healthcare, unfortunately this time around they are not covering everything.
The implants that I need to help replace my bottom teeth are not being covered by health insurance since it is considered “cosmetic” and my dental insurance basically covers nothing.
This money would help to cover the costs of the implants and eventual permanent teeth I’ll receive after recovery, as well as the costs of my family having had to travel into the city for two weeks while I was in the hospital and all of our trips back and forth for my doctor visits and procedures.
If you are able to spare even a dollar or to share this gofundme, our family greatly appreciates it.
