Support for Callie's Urgent Medical Care

Over Memorial Day weekend, Miguel and Ashley’s family dog Callie was not feeling well. She was having a hard time keeping down food and water. However, her personality wasn’t keeping her down. She was still playing with their other dogs running around the yard chasing her shadow and being herself. Miguel & Ashley took Callie to the vet on Tuesday, where they performed bloodwork on her. Her bloodwork results came back not good and they were immediately referred to an emergency veterinary hospital. She had to stay overnight there as they had to do an ultrasound along with other testing and administer IV fluids, and be able to aspirate her liver. The estimated cost is $3500- $4668. That’s not even including if they have to do a biopsy which would tack on another $5k. People who know Miguel, Ashley and their kids know how much Callie means to their family and just how very special she is. They adopted her from the German Shepherd Rescue New England when she was about 1 years old. She was born deaf and was surrendered by her owners and then sadly returned by two foster families who didn’t know what to do with a deaf dog. Although they didn’t know what to do with a deaf dog either, Miguel knew that being a dog trainer would mean she would have a better chance of being adopted if she was with them. It wasn’t easy. She was a spaz. She had giardia too so they really had our hands full. 3 months later, they asked if they could adopt her themselves because she just fit right in with their growing family. Callie has always been a special girl! To think she’s 8 and still has the same spunk as she did when they first adopted her is amazing. To see her sick like this really sucks and it’s breaking their hearts. I know that times are tough and everyone is going through their own tough times but if anyone is able to help out in any way with any amount we would all really appreciate it. Callie would appreciate it. Ashley and Miguel are selfless, humble people who are hard-working and really have never been ones to ask for help, but truly need it this time.
