My name is Alex Lively. My fiancé, April Saccoccio and I are raising as much money as we can so we can better care for our fur babies, Buddy and Snoopy, and return to some semblance of "normal life." Unfortunate circumstances have us living in the streets of New York City. April is mentally disabled and is almost paralyzed with grief due to the trauma she's sustained over the past few years with her brother being murdered and taking care of her father until his death from cancer. I was hit by a NYC bus which has resulted in me having a plate with screws inserted into my spinal column at the neck, a. BMsurgically repaired shoulder and a future back surgery of a 2 tier plate and screws inserted into my lower back. I lost my livelyhood and was forced to deplete my savings in order to survive. I'm still in litigation against the city and MTA over their drivers' negligence, but without being able to do almost any work, I'm put in a precarious situation. I thank God and the good deeds of strangers and friends alike that has enabled our survival, but we're barely keeping our heads above the water. I do my best to take care of us all, but my physical disabilities limit my opportunities and severely restrict my capabilities. Being outside doesn't allow me to really look for and obtain employment that I might be able to do because of having to watch over my family's safety, not to mention the inability to properly maintain hygiene. Its left us to the point of relying on city agencies that drag their feet and give us lip service rather than help. Being outside, my poor babies are chained up all day laying on a mattress I pulled from the garbage. Most of all the money I earn goes toward keeping my dogs, Buddy & Snoopy, April and myself fed. I save what I can but at the rate I'm able, it almost seems that I'll never be able to obtain the housing we so desperately need. We are currently being harassed and threatened by a city agency that is supposed to help us (Dept. of Homeless Services) and a construction company that are doing anything they can, including illegally, to force us to move from our current location. The donations that we receive are going towards obtaining permanent housing but will help in obtaining a storage facility for our possessions that we don't want to lose until then. We also need to take them to the vet because Snoopy has a growth on his chest and Buddy has a serious ear problem that needs medication. I'm asking for your support in getting us on our feet and helping us get Snoopy and Buddy the best care they can. Thank you very much for your kindness and consideration.
